A few years ago I came across this book Tantra Song, a survey on the tradition of abstract Tantric painting in Rajasthan, India. the book was appealing to me for many reasons, but mostly because I found the collection of paintings to be so beautiful and perfect, a kind of complex simplicity. Being introduced to these works also exemplified to me how ridiculous it is that abstract art is a western invention created at the beginning of the 20th century.
